I believe tattooing should be about more than just following trends. It’s about good artwork, solid craftsmanship, advice, personal service and creating tattoos that still look great years down the line. Every client and every tattoo is treated with the same care, whether you’re walking in off the street and choosing a design from the flash on the walls or sitting down with me to create something completely custom.

Custom work and walk-ins are both welcome, and the studio undertakes all styles of tattooing. From bold traditional pieces and Japanese-inspired work to black and grey realism, fine line, lettering, illustrative, ornamental and everything in between, myself and the other artists in the studio are happy to work with your ideas and find the right approach for you.

At Black Lantern I keep things straightforward: good tattoos, good people and no unnecessary fuss. I take pride in our craft, my studio and the experience given to every customer.

The studio keeps classic traditional values. Craft first, no egos, honest advice. If an idea will not age well, you will be told. If it needs enlarging, redrawing or a different placement to work, that conversation happens before the needle does.

First-timers are genuinely welcome. Bring a rough idea, whether that is a theme, a style you like or just a placement, and we will help shape it into something that will still look right in twenty years.

Meet the owner

Jamie Owner · Founder

I first wanted to become a tattooer when I was 17. Life, travelling and other opportunities took me in different directions, but the idea never really left me.

I’ve always been inspired by the tattoos worn by my favourite rock ’n’ rollers, and developed a real love and fascination for traditional tattooing, Japanese work and Americana. Then, at 40, while travelling and getting tattooed in Indonesia, something clicked - I decided it was finally time to stop thinking about it and start doing it.

Tattooing isn’t an easy craft to get into at any age, but I’ve always believed that if you really want something, you find a way.

At the time I was living in the South of France, so I began studying the craft and opened Black Lantern Tattoo Vence, where I apprenticed in my own shop under the instruction and guidance of Toine Tatouage of Pagan Europa Tattoo.

To gain as much hands-on experience as possible, I also spent time tattooing in various street shops around Nice and Antibes, as well as continuing to develop my experience in the UK.

At the end of 2024, I returned permanently to the UK and opened Black Lantern Tattoo in Warminster.

Since then, the shop has gone from strength to strength. I’ve had the privilege of meeting and tattooing so many wonderful people, hearing their stories and being trusted to create pieces that become part of their lives.

There’s still plenty I want to learn, create and achieve, and I’m excited to keep growing Black Lantern Tattoo - with all of you along for the ride.

The shop

A proper old-school studio on Warminster's Silver Street: checkerboard floor, walls of framed flash, candlelight and a warm welcome. Have a look round.

How booking works

We usually work by consultation and appointment to make sure every client gets a tailored, high-quality experience.

  1. Get in touch

    Look at the gallery above and see whether the style fits your idea, then get in touch through Instagram.

  2. Send your idea

    DM Jamie with the concept, placement and rough sizing. Photos or references help, but a description is fine to start.

  3. Consultation

    You discuss the idea, placement, sizing and availability, and make sure the studio is the right fit for the project.

  4. Design & deposit

    Once the design direction is confirmed, your appointment is scheduled and booked in with a deposit. Direct contact keeps communication clear from first message to final session.

Walk-ins: welcome when an artist is available. Just ask on the day. Custom and larger pieces always start with the consultation route above.
